Jr Lifeguard Program


4 Week Session Overview ( Ages 9 - 17 )

The 4 week DMJG Program is set up for first time participants and returning participants. It is a physically demanding program with lots of beach and water action along with FUN! Sportsmanship, team work, respect of the beach and ocean are stressed. Lifeguard rescue techniques are taught and practiced daily along with first aid and CPR. We will participate in Junior Lifeguard Competitions, field trips and an awards banquet at the end of each session.

2 Week Session Overview ( Ages 9 - 13 )

The 2 week sessions are set up for first time JG participants, the session is an INTRODUCTION to the DMJG program. All basic JG skills and games will be covered. There will be lots of beach and water action daily along with FUN!

JG Competition Prep Class Overview ( Ages 9 - 17 )

6 Wednesday evenings from 5:00-7:00PM

June 30, July 7,14,21,28 and Aug 4

For Junior Guards who wish to concentrate on or practice their JG skills and competition events in a fun environment. We will highlight teamwork, sportsmanship, overall physical fitness, paddle boarding, beach flags, body surfing, SUP, and of course, fun and games! One goal of this class will be to send JGs well prepared to compete in the Cal State Games, Regional and National competitions being held in the LA area this summer.

Xtreme Junior Guard Class Overview ( Ages 14 - 18 )

Limited space available

For Junior Guards who wish to become a DMJG Intern or Lifeguard in the future or for those who wish to learn advanced skills. We will cover advanced lifeguarding techniques, cliff rescue, swift water rescue techniques, IRB rescues, tower time, CPR certification, workouts and FUN!

DMJG/LT Xtended Care Program ( Ages 7 - 15 )

June 21st - Aug 12th

9:30 - 12:30 for JGs participating in PM sessions
11:15 - 2:30 for JGs and LTs participating in the AM sessions

Xtended Care is open to children registered and enrolled in the DMJG/LT program. DMJG/LT uniform must be worn during Xtended care hours. Xtended Care participants will be required to wear a special orange colored jersey (over their uniform) for easy recognition and safety: provided for them daily by the program.

JGs and LTs will be supervised on the beach at 29th St. by DMJG Instructor and staff members. Participants in Xtended Care will be supervised during beach games, free swim (includes surfing, boogie boarding) and snack time.

Supervised drop off and pick up of participants will occur at the DMJG drop off/ pick up area at North Beach.


The emphasis is on FUN while LEARNING.
